ECO - ROM AMBALAJE is an organisation established by the industry, acting as an interface in fulfilling a public interest mission: environmental protection by observing the commitments to reach packaging waste recovery and recycling objectives.
By the contract taking over responsibility, Eco-Rom Ambalaje fulfils the objectives related to the recovery and recycling of the package materials introduced on the market by the companies manufacturing or importing packaged products.
In 2003, a group of companies active on the domestic market laid the foundations of Eco-Rom Ambalaje and took the initiative of implementing in Romania the "Green Dot" system, which is the European system for the integrated management of packaging waste.
Ever since 1995, the Green Dot system has proven its long-term efficiency, so that 33 European countries are currently using this system in order to achieve their national packaging waste recycling targets.
The experience acquired at the national level and the European expertise gained from being a member of PRO Europe www.pro-e.org, position Eco-Rom Ambalaje as the undisputed leader in taking over the responsibility for package waste recycling.
At present, over 1,400 companies from Romania benefit from the service range provided by Eco-Rom Ambalaje, which assumes the responsibility of reaching the recovery and recycling targets for the packages introduced on the domestic market.
In the period 2005-2006, Eco-Rom Ambalaje initiated pilot projects in the field of selective waste recycling in 10 localities across Romania, on samples of 10,000 inhabitants, in partnership with the local authorities and the sanitation operators.
In 2007 Eco-Rom Ambalaje launched the National Selective Waste Collection Programme.
Starting with 2009, as a result of the investments made by Eco-Rom Ambalaje, over 3 million inhabitants from 73 Romanian localities have access to the selective waste collection infrastructure.
